Packing on the Pounds - Sent January 15, 2018
A super cute little kitten at Heimana's house. |
Well, I hate to say it, but all this Tahitian food is starting to stick. I came back from a dinner the other night sooooo full! The problem here is I have to eat everything and sometimes there is just so much. The classic meal is called "Steak frites" which is basically a greasy slab of meat about a quarter inch thick called a steak, and then 20 pounds of french fries, with enough grease to justify eating it with a spoon. So after downing one of those I came home and was just dying and Elder Schlitters was getting such a kick out of it. Not gaining weight is officially impossible.
But other than eating my body weight in French fries, this week has been super solid! We had a baptism for a little 9 year old and it was awesome. His mom was inactive and decided to start coming back and so we have been going over giving them the lessons to get her son, Tahiarii, ready for baptism! It was great and I got the chance to baptize him, so that was super fun.
We were also super busy this whole week. It was basically the opposite of last week so that rocked. A little miracle is we were literally booked for almost every hour of every day except Thursday, somehow we had nothing to do that day. And Elder Kimball ended up being sick that day, so he was able to stay home and rest up and we didn't have to miss any lessons. God is really in the details!
One story I want to share is about one of the pictures. It is with an old mami in the ward. In Tahiti everyone just calls all the old ladies mami and all the old guys papi, so come to think of it I don't actually know her name, she is just mami. Anyway, she is way funny. We went to her house to try to fix a lesson with her son in law, who isn't a member, and she ended up talking with us for about an hour. At first she was talking about how she was going to take us dancing and she had dancing outfits for us so we were going to have to change into those. Then she started going off about how when she won her millions in the lottery she was going to have us bail on the rest of our missions and take us on a tour around the world. It was way funny, and I'm pretty sure she was joking, but honestly it's possible she was being serious. Pas grave, eh?
That about wraps up my email for the week! I just want to end by bearing testimony on how essential it is to have the help of members for missionary work. From references to going on splits, missionary work can't be done without the help of the members, so I would like to encourage all of you to try to help out the missionary work this week! Try sharing the gospel with someone, you won't regret it, even if they say no. Love you all, have a fantastic week!
Baptism of Tahiarii and I got to baptise him, super great! |
A little girl in our ward drew this in my planner and I thought it was cute |
