Happy New Year- Sent Jan. 1st, 2018

FROM HOLLY- Braden told us that he had been sick with a stomach bug and so he didn't feel up to sending a group e-mail this week.  He did say he was fine and loving it there though, and he did answer some of the questions I sent him.  Here are his answers:

1)  How is New Years celebrated where you are?

ANSWER : Basically for every holiday the celebration is simple, eat even more than usual and if you aren't Mormon go get drunk. We were in bed too early to see the real parties, but I'm sure it was a hoot. We have an investigator, Heimana, the body builder, and I saw him during the day holding a thing of beer. I jokingly asked if it was full of water, he said yes and we had a nice laugh. Good times. Don't worry about him though, he is starting to stop drinking and smoking on the 8th, and I actually really trust him on it, so that's exciting!

2)  What was your favorite thing I sent you in your Christmas package?  (For future reference)

ANSWER:  Well, the CTR rings were awesome. I have been giving those out to little kids and they love them! I had a little girl, probably about 10 years old tell me she was gonna cry when I left the island. I jokingly told her to call President Fox and ask me to stay. She didn't catch the joke and ran to get a paper and pencil to write down his number. When I refused to give his number she suddenly got all excited and asked for my number. Well that was awkward. Luckily I spent all of high school dodging girls, so this little girl didn't stand a chance.

3) Now that you’ve been out for five months what advice would you give to somebody just leaving on their mission?

ANSWER:  Find the joy in the little things. It isn't easy, but it is so worth it. The spirit is amazing and definitely live worthy to have that with you 24/7. But also just have fun. I don't mean to brag, but literally while I was throwing up, me and my companion were still joking with each other. Make every moment a good moment! And work your butt off.

4) New Year’s resolutions? (Mine (Holly) is to lose as much weight as Braden gains by Mother’s Day)

ANSWER: Haven't really thought about it. Probably get sick less. Also make Mom's resolution as difficult as possible. I might not be able to do the two at the same time though. After reading through this email maybe I need to be a little less sarcastic. Wouldn't want anyone to confuse my emails with McKade's.

8 Months!

   Holy cow can you guys believe that today is my 8 Month mark!?! That means I am already a third of the way done with the mission! It goes too fast! It feels like I just got here!    But man, this week was pretty awesome, we were so busy. We have been working so hard at getting the branch hyped on missionary work, and it is working! We have members who come and knock doors with us, members who go and visit the investigators, and who come on splits with us! It is the best! Crazy Week / Sent Nov. 5, 2018

Well, this week definitely felt a little nuts. I will try to sum it up the best I can. Wish me luck!    The hardest part of this week was having to say goodbye to Elder Hurd. He had to go home this week and it was really hard to see him go. But I have to give him a huge shout out for being a great missionary, even though he was dealing with a lot of stuff we didn't even know about, and I am sure he will be able to come back one day and kill it as a great missionary.    Me and Elder Clarke have been doing good though, and we thought we were going to finish out the last two weeks of the transfer like that, but nope, plot twist! The assistants called and let me know that later today I am going to go get another companion, someone who is waiting for a visa. So starting later today I will be in a trio again, with a tahitian who probably doesn't speak english, and Elder Clarke who is still learning french, so that's gonna be an experience. Rain, Rain, Rain - Sent January 8, 2018

  It rains a lot in Tahaa. Especially this week for some reason. The biggest problem with rain is that everybody just camps at home and tells you to go home too. Even bishop saw us out and was like, "what are you guys doing out here!?" so that was funny. At one point it was storming SUPER hard and I had to bike around the island for a split. I decided to whip out my handy dandy poncho, and everyone was getting pretty good laughs out of how it looked. But they sure weren't laughing when I made it all the way to the other side of the island (about 90 minutes on bike) completely dry! Well, that's what I would have said if it was true, but unfortunately the poncho didn't stop the rain at all and I was totally soaked. Got some funny pictures though!   So apparently in French Polynesia there is a tradition.
