Hey everybody! Sorry I have been slacking hard on emails, the wifi at the church has been down, and unlike in America, nobody really has wifi here so we had to find the one person who does and crash there and needless to say it wasn't a good time for emails. But the wifi is back so now I can email again!
So my subject line is about a service project we did. Someone in the ward is making a snack, basically just a little place to sell food, and we needed to cement it. The job for me and my companion was to shovel all the cement mix in the machine, then wheelbarrow it to where they needed it, so we were in the splash zone. The pictures actually don't make us look like we got to covered, but we were super splashed with is. It was a lot of fun though and made a really good impression on some members and some non members!
So I need to throw out a Tahitian phrase. It is Faatamaaraa. It basically means feast. It is pretty cool how all the prefixis and suffixis work. Maa is food, tamaa is eating, faatamaa is eating like you mean it, and faatamaaraa makes that a noun, so its a feast! But the reason I bring this up is because that's what we call our dinner appointments, and I always start to type that out then change it to english, so I figured it is just easier this way.
Anyway, we had an awesome faatamaaraa last night. Normally we just go to a members house, and it is good, it is to get to know the members. But last night two investigators, Deborah and Heimana invited us over to eat dinner together! And let me tell you, Heimana knows how to cook! I eat chicken every single day here, and this was the first time that it was way good. Normally they chop up the whole thing and throw it in a pot and you spend all night trying not to choke on slivers of bone, but Heimana cooked it like a normal chicken. Just stuck the whole thing in the oven, then cut it up. I knew it might be the best chicken I have for ages, so I ate like there was no tomorrow. Then Deborah made a cake and ice cream! Me and Elder Taylor are having a diet competition and we can't eat stuff like that except at the faatamaaraa's, so obviously I had to eat a ton. Anyway, needless to say I still am not hungry and I kind of though I was gonna die last night. But that isn't even what made it so fun! Normally we spend all dinner getting to know the members, which is fun, but kind of hard to do get to know yous in french every night. Since we already really know these investigators because we teach them multiple times each week, we just had a great time being great friends with them. Probably my favorite faatamaaraa so far. Love the people our here!
I hope you are all having fun getting ready for Christmas, I sure am! We put up some Christmas decorations and I am pumped. I hope you all have fun in the snow for me! I am gonna really miss the snow, but I can't really complain out here. Loving life!
Did you all watch the first presidency Christmas Message? We watched it last night and it was great! It was in french, but it was fun, because I understood way more than I did of French General Conference, so it was sweet to see the improvement. But also it was a great message. I know that the Prophets and Apostles are truly called of God. What they say is true and our lives will be blessed by listening and acting on what they say!
Sorry this email is so long, figured I needed to catch up for last week. Hope you all have a great week, and to get in the spirit of Christmas, go serve someone! Being Christlike will invite the Christmas spirit, and joy, more than anything else will. Love you all, have a great week!
