We Got Our Stuff!
Well, this Friday all of our luggage came, which was super exciting, because we packed our carry on for two days, and ended up going over a week with just that, because they kept forgetting to put our stuff on the boats. But now I have more than two pairs of clothes and all of my french scriptures, and a mosquito net, so life is good!
Man this is crazy, I feel like so much happens, but when it comes to actually writing the email, its hard to remember specifics (dont worry mom, I'm keeping a good journal). I guess I will just share a few fun facts about what life here is like. We basically live off of baguettes here, because they are super cheap, and everything else is way expensive because it costs a ton to ship stuff out here. When we eat with members its usually rice and chicken and potatoes, although I have had a few other fun things too. One thing called huru (breadfruit in english, McKade mentioned them in his email), Poisson cru, which is basically raw fish and citrus, its good but way wierd, tastes nothing like fish. I'm worried I'm gonna have dog here soon, a member said he was gonna butcher two for his birthday, so we will see how that goes.
Today for P-day we went out to a motu (those little island things around the reef). A lot of people here work constructing the hotels out there, so we had a member take us out and show us around, It was beautiful!!! Wow!! I took some awesome pictures, but they don't really do it justice, and the wifi won't let me send them anyway, oh well. But this place is so beautiful, I love it.
So funny story of the week, we have an investigator named Jean Claude who is way funny. We found him my first day here, and basically just wanted to bible bash, but my companion is amazing with the scriptures and basically taught the truth of the gospel in response to his bashing questions. He was amazed and is taking the lessons now because he thinks my companion is a so smart. He always says he loves our church because we are so intelligent. Well, that's not even the story, that's just the background. At the end of one of the lessons, my companion was praying and Jean Claude said amen, just in agreement, six times throughout the prayer. He also kept saying something along the lines of mmmhhhhh. He was so loving the prayer, and it was not easy for me to keep from busting up in the middle of that prayer. It was great!
I have a really cool story too. We taught a lesson to a guy on Wednesday, his name is Patrick and we thought he was nuts. We also found him my first day here, and we thought he was crazy. We were basically going into the lesson planning on dropping him, because we didn't think he was going to do anything, he literally told us he had no plan to change after our first lesson. This was also the first lesson my companion had me lead (probably because he felt we didn't have much to lose). Well I was way nervous and prayed like crazy, and the lesson actually went amazing!! We had challenged him to pray, and he prayed every day, and so this time we gave him the Book of Mormon and he was excited to read it!! He was also way smarter that we had thought, he knows like 5 languages and knew a lot about the bible. He even mentioned Joseph Smith before we did and we both about fell out of our chairs (small plastic stools really). I am excited for our next lesson with him, I know that my prayers were answered and that we have no right to judge people without really getting to know them!
I love it here! The language is still way hard, and that has definitely been way rough on me, but its improving, so I just need to keep working in faith. I know that this is the lords work and that he helps us every step of the way. Also, out here I have learned how crucial member help is in the work, I encourage all of you to talk to a friend about the church, and maybe invite them to come to church or meet with the missionaries, worst case scenario they just say no, and you move on, so go for it! I love you all, sorry pictures didn't work this week, Have a great one!
