I don't understand English! / Send Sept. 17, 2018
Hey everybody! Nothing too special seemed to happen this week, so my plan was to just send a lot of pictures. Well, I just hooked my camera up and turns out I haven't actually taken any pictures this week, sorry. But I've got one funny story for you all!
I have been with a french companion and it has been awesome, he has been helping my improve a lot, and we have especially been working the accent. I felt like I have really been improving, but I guess I fell into the pride cycle, because I had a super humbling moment during a lesson this week. I explained a whole concept, and afterwards the investigator said he didn't understand very much of what I said because he doesn't speak english. He thought I was speaking english!!!!! That is probably the lowest blow I could have been given on my accent. I blame it on the fact that his french wasn't that great either, he prefers Tahitian, but oh well. At least we had a really good laugh over it that night.
Another funny thing that was kind of similar was during dinner last night. We were with an awesome family, and my companion tried to speak a little bit of english to one of the little kids, who is probably about 6 year old. After he was done talking, the kid said, " I don't understand Tahitian at all!" We had a good laugh because the kid thought he was speaking Tahitian, not english. It gets complicated with so many languages here, but it makes for lots of good laughs.
I made poisson cru this week! Now I know how! Also, one of our investigators, Teva, is progressing really well, he has a baptismal date fixed for September 28th. If he gets baptised, that will be the first time on my mission that I baptise someone that I found and taught all the lessons to. Most people here take the lessons for like a year before getting baptised, so I'm pretty excited.
Love you all! Sorry, I know a long email with no pictures is the worst. The church is true! Na na!
