Rain, Rain, Rain - Sent January 8, 2018

It rains a lot in Tahaa. Especially this week for some reason. The biggest problem with rain is that everybody just camps at home and tells you to go home too. Even bishop saw us out and was like, "what are you guys doing out here!?" so that was funny. At one point it was storming SUPER hard and I had to bike around the island for a split. I decided to whip out my handy dandy poncho, and everyone was getting pretty good laughs out of how it looked. But they sure weren't laughing when I made it all the way to the other side of the island (about 90 minutes on bike) completely dry! Well, that's what I would have said if it was true, but unfortunately the poncho didn't stop the rain at all and I was totally soaked. Got some funny pictures though!

So apparently in French Polynesia there is a tradition. It goes something like this: "The new years party goes half way through January and nobody talks to the missionaries." That's just a rough translation of the island party motto. Needless to say with three epic all day storms in a row and party week, the amount of progression in our investigators was a solid negative number. Bummer. But hey, you gotta have the bad if you wanna appreciate the good! So this next week is gonna be great!

Really not a lot happened this week. I cannot over emphasize how much rain and party week kept people from talking with us, even members. One day we had three lessons planned, and by the end of the day we had four lessons fall through. Doesn't make sense to me either, but the numbers don't lie. But one thing that is way fun is gonna happen right after finishing this email! Shout out to Elder Schlitters, who is gonna teach us all how to play dungeons and dragons. That's our epic P-day activity so I'm pretty pumped!

I want to bear testimony that even during the hard times God still loves and cares for us! It is crazy how many answers I received to prayers this week. Even during the hard times the joy of the Gospel is better than anything else! I love it here and would never trade this experience for the world. Love you all and have a great week!!
